MONARCHS ARE THE CHAMPIONS
by Mike
Hunter
www.edinburghspeedway.com
With a tip of the cap to the Birmingham Brummies for a super
performance, Edinburgh Scotwaste Monarchs can now say that they
are the deserved winners of the 2008 Premier League.
Our young team, driven by Derek Sneddon as captain, have been
magnificent all year and have earned praise all around the
country.
It did seem that Somerset's great win at the Isle of Wight last
night was likely to make us require a win at Glasgow, but that
depended on the Rebels winning at Birmingham.
The brilliant Brummies, after a heart-stopping night, came out
on top by 48-44 and eased us to the title.
Their promoter Graham Drury was in contact with Alex Harkess
during the final heat at Perry Barr and after clinching the win
he said "I am pleased for Edinburgh because they are one of the
best promotions in Speedway.
"I did say to my team that with the Monarchs down on Sunday for
the Premier Trophy, there just might be a couple of bottles of
whisky brought down for them."
Rest assured that the Monarchs will be doing that. Thanks to the
Brummies, but the main congratulations go to:
WILLIAM LAWSON, DEREK SNEDDON (CAPT.), THOMAS H JONASSON, ANDREW
TULLY, RYAN FISHER, MATTHEW WETHERS, AARON SUMMERS.

Edited from
edinburghspeedway.com:
Robert
Ksiezak was quickly away in the opening heat with the three
Monarchs in the race right on his tail. Aaron Summers made a
hard move to pass going up the home straight and both Tully and
Wethers followed. Ksiezak rounded Wethers again and Tully came
inside Summers to complete an eventful opener.
George Stancl led heat 8 with Andrew Tully quickly into second
trying to set up a challenge. He cut to the inside off the
fourth bend just as Makovsky lost control and hit him hard with
his back wheel. This sent Andrew at high speed through the fence
at the start of the home straight.
Makovsky was excluded and the rerun was a good dice between
Derek Sneddon who gated and Andrew Tully who eased through
inside with his superior turning ability.
Heat 11 finished up with just two finishers, won by Leverington
after Wethers fell again. Then we had an interesting Fisher v
Tully tussle in heat 12.
Ryan realised how strong Andrew can be on the inside so kept
that covered and seemed well clear going into the last lap.
Andrew still got right up for a challenge off the last corner
and came within a whisker of a remarkable pass.
Schlein met Tully in heat 16, making a quick gate and moving
over to block Andrew’s run. Andrew spent most of the heat
regaining second place and never managed a challenge on the
leader.
None of the riders in heat 19 had a chance though Matthew won
the heat, and Screen beat Tully in heat 20 to take the second
direct place in the final.
Sadly Fisher stopped again in the semi after making a fast
start. McGowan took over with Summers second for much of the
heat, but unable to prevent Tully coming past.
It would have been a travesty had anyone other than Schlein won
the final, and it was never in doubt. The fight for the minor
places was closer, with Tully right amongst the two Elite
riders, until Screen covered the inside to hold Andrew off.

TERRIFIC 21 FOR TULLY
MIKE HUNTER
REPORTS from
www.edinburghspeedway.co.uk

Andrew Tully won seven of Friday’s 15 heats at Armadale to
become the first Monarchs’ rider ever to score a full 21 point
maximum.
He inspired another whopping home victory, this time by
67-23, and to be honest if the astonishing Tully had ridden in
all the heats he would surely have scored 45.
His speed and control were incredible. The highlight was
probably the rerun heat 11 when he was approximately third round
the first corner, but drove straight past the opposition as if
they were standing still.
Previous instances of paid 7-ride maximums for the club have
been George Hunter (v Glasgow, 1968, 20+1), Lawrence Hare (v
Sheffield, 1994, 17+4) and Barry Campbell (v Newport, 1998,
17+4).

Tully's magnificent 7 for Monarchs
By DAVID KINVIG - Edinburgh Evening News
A MAGNIFICENT seven-ride 21-point maximum from reserve star
Andrew Tully helped propel Edinburgh Scotwaste Monarchs to a
crushing 67-23 Premier League speedway victory over the Isle of
Wight Islanders at Armadale.
Superlatives have been exhausted in recent weeks to describe
Tully's performances as the Bathgate flier is quite simply the
best and most prolific tail-ender in the country.
Although he could have been content to stick with his 18-point
full maximum from six outings, he had no hesitation in
volunteering to come out in the heat 15 top scorers race with
partner Ryan Fisher.
Islanders ace Jason Bunyan, who won the opening heat against
Fisher and guest Tomas Topinka, had the ability to shatter
Tully's dream and made a half-decent gate but Tully quickly
seized control and Fisher showed some self restraint to keep
Bunyan at bay and allow Tully to cross the line in style.
Tully's clenched fist as he took the chequered flag underlined
just how much this maximum milestone meant to him.
After receiving the customary celebratory bumps from his
teammates, Tully said: "I feel very happy. You need a bit of
luck to score a 21-point maximum with nothing going wrong and
nothing did go wrong for me."
Unaware that Monarchs had chalked up such a mammoth score, Tully
added that the match certainly didn't appear to be that easy.
"I honestly had no idea we had scored 67 points. But everybody
is just enjoying their speedway. We are all having fun and Tomas
was an excellent replacement for William (Lawson). had no
hesitation about going out in the last race. And Jason did make
a good start. But Ryan and me made the first bend work for us
and Ryan shepherded me home, which was good of him!"
Asked if he thinks any visiting side will conquer Monarchs at
home this year, Tully added: "We don't think about anything like
that. We don't think about anything bad. If we end up at the top
of the league at the end of the season, fair and well, it's what
we are aiming for."
The Islanders are not a bad outfit by any means but they were
left totally marooned by the scoring might of their hosts.
Monarchs only led 19-11 after five races but a run of six 5-1
advantages in a row put the capital side on easy street.
But Bunyan, who couldn't add to his first race win and finished
on eight points, promised it will be a different story when
Monarchs visit Smalbrook Stadium next month.
He said: "This was a whipping right from the start. Monarchs are
so dialed into their own track in much the same way as we are
round our place.
"Coming from such a big track to a small circuit like Armadale,
all we can really do is try our best. The first couple of heats
we did okay because the track had a bit of dirt on it. But,
after it became slick, we struggled. Edinburgh pulled away.
"I was pleased to win the first race. I didn't get the best of
starts but there was a gap on the inside and you don't have to
be asked twice under the circumstances.
"Overall it was a pretty average night for me. But we are
looking forward to the return match. We'll make the track as
different as it can possibly be. It will be over watered and a
foot deep! We need every advantage we can get.
"But, give them their due, Edinburgh have got a cracking side
and, realistically, Edinburgh would need two of their top guys
to get injured in the first race for any visiting side to have a
chance of taking the points-and nobody wants that."
Tully may have been Monarchs showstopper but was ably supported
by Fisher, who amassed 14 points from his six starts. Fisher was
beaten just once by Bunyan. However The Monarchs heat leader
scared the living daylights out of Islanders' Aussie ace Corey
Gathercole when he thundered underneath him to snatch second
place behind Aaron Summers for a 5-1 in heat eight.
Surprisingly given the points feast they gorged on, Tully was
the only Monarch to record a maximum.
Matthew Wethers, for instance, might have been a candidate to go
through the match unbeaten but dropped points to Bunyan when he
was relegated to third place in heat 13.
And skipper Derek Sneddon, who has spent needless time this week
denying a bust-up with Fisher, managed a couple of wins. But the
Falkirk rider, trying to ride through a current bad patch,
doesn't look awfully assured round his home track right now and
must look on slightly enviously at the way Tully, who didn't
start off the season too impressively, has turned things around.

In-form Tully back
to sting Scorpions
from
www.sportscunthorpe.co.uk
EDINBURGH Monarchs showed just why Scunthorpe promoter Rob
Godfrey believes they are favourites for the Premier League
title this season.
The Scottish outfit held all the aces as they inflicted a first
home defeat of the season on the Scorpions at the Eddie Wright
Raceway yesterday.
Scunthorpe stuck doggedly to their task with the points shared
equally in each of the opening nine heats.
But that sequence was then shattered as the visitors stepped on
the gas to record 5-1 maximums in four of the last six heats.
It gave them a second away win of the season - and left
Scunthorpe licking their wounds.
It was former Normanby Road favourite Andy Tully who again
proved the star of the show for Edinburgh.
He followed up his 15-point maximum in the Monarchs' 68-22
demolition of Scunthorpe on his own Armadale track last Friday
night with another man of the meeting performance
He looked unbeatable in his opening five rides - and was only
denied a 17-point paid maximum when he was scuppered by a
puncture in his last outing.
By then though, the visitors already had victory well wrapped
up.
They had a strength in depth that Scunthorpe could not match.
Three home riders contributed only five points between them -
and that trio included No 1 heat leader Andy Moore who had a
miserable afternoon.
Scunthorpe badly missed the scoring potential of the injured
Viktor Bergstrom - and the promoters have got to come up trumps
now this week as they seek a seven-point replacement for the now
departed Benji Compton.
The Scorpions managed to produce only three heat winners - and
that on their own track was hugely disappointing.
Magnus Karlsson won two of them and Richard Hall the other,
while Carl Wilkinson never gave up trying with three second
places under his belt.
For nine heats the Scorpions managed to stay on level terms.
But they had fortune on their side in heat three as Edinburgh
looked set for a 5-1 until skipper Derek Sneddon fell while
leading at the front.
It was heat five before the Scorpions posted a winner, with
Karlsson leading from tapes to flag.
Heat seven was the best of the afternoon when Hall snatched
victory on the line by the width of a tyre after a terrific
four-lap tussle with Ryan Fisher - the only time the Edinburgh
man was beaten by a home rider all meeting.
Tully held off a battling effort from Wilkinson in heat eight
before Karlsson led from the front again to win heat nine.
But it was all down hill from then for Scunthorpe as the
visitors reeled of 5-1 maximums in heats 10, 11 and 13 to secure
the victory they had always threatened.
The Scorpions managed their only heat victory in the penultimate
race when Hall picked up four points for second place as a
tactical substitute for a 5-3 in their favour. That though was
only after Tully had punctured on lap two.
Another 5-1 for Edinburgh in the final heat reflected their
superiority on the day.

TULLY AIMING TO BE MONARCH OF THE
GLEN
(courtesy of www.sportscunthorpe.co.uk)
IF
ROB Godfrey is smiling as he crosses the northern
border this evening, former Scorpion Andrew Tully is
out to ensure the opposite is the case for the
return trip.
Scunthorpe take on the Edinburgh Monarchs tonight
and Tully is keen to put in a memorable performance
against his old club.
"It'll be good fun and quite interesting" he said.
"I had two brilliant seasons there and we won pretty
much everything. I enjoyed it but hopefully I'll
score some points against them.
"It
will be good to see Rob Godfrey again. It'll be good
to wipe the smile off his face! It will be good to
wind them up before going to Scunthorpe if we win
tonight!"
Tully was part of the all-conquering Scorpions side
which swept aside the Conference League last season.
The
Flying Scotsman lived up to his name round the
Scunthorpe track, even holding the course record at
one stage. He believes this could be key for the
return fixture on Monday.
"I
know the track well. If I don't score at Scunthorpe
then I'll be disappointed. I can go as fast as
anyone round there" he said.
"I've not really thought about it too much but I'm
sure it will be a bit weird going back and riding
against some of the people I used to ride with.
"I'm
looking forward to seeing all the people that I know
there though.
"I
don't think I'll get any boos, I hope not!"
The
long distance prevented the 20-year-old from staying
with Kenny Smith's team this season, instead he
remains committed to his home-town club.
The
Monarchs have made an impressive start to the
campaign, buoyed by Tully's ever-increasing points
haul they sit fourth in the Premier League table.
"It's been going all right. I've been doing a bit
better away from home some of the time but I'm
pretty happy with how it's going" he said.
"The
last few meetings I've had some pretty high scores.
"I
can't complain about this season. It's been
brilliant so far.
"We've got a good solid team and everybody scores
points. There's a great team spirit and we all have
a laugh.
"We're looking to get some silverware. But it's
still really early in the season.
"It's nice that people think we're doing well but
it's the end of the season when it all gets close.
"Scunthorpe are pretty handy when they get going as
well.
"I
would love to have ridden for both clubs but the way
everything worked I just couldn't."

MIKE HUNTER
REPORTS
from www.edinburghspeedway.co.uk
After a great start to his Under-21
qualifier at King's Lynn, and direct qualification for the final
heat, Andrew Tully fell during that vital last race and so will
be meeting reserve for the British Under-21 Final.
Past experience suggests he will be required to travel rather
than ride for Monarchs in their cup tie against Berwick on the
night of the final at Lakeside (25th April).
He was a victim of the current fad for deciding qualifying
positions on the additional heats rather than the 20 qualifying
races.
In the latter Andrew piled up 14 points to finish joint top
qualifier with Workington's 16 year old Joe Haines. They went
direct to the final, joined by Charles Wright and Sean Stoddart
after the semi-final between the next four scorers.
Haines won the final from Stoddart with Tully falling whilst
battling with Wright.
The only rider to beat Andrew in the qualifiers was Sheffield's
Sam Martin.
Meeting favourite, home rider Simon Lambert won his first heat
but packed up while leading his second and was never the same
thereafter.
William Lawson of course is seeded direct to the Lakeside
meeting.

FIFTH WIN ON A MUDDY NIGHT
MIKE HUNTER REPORTS
from www.edinburghspeedway.co.uk
The Scotwaste Monarchs haven't had
much luck with the weather but they made light work of the
tricky conditions in a storming 56-37 over Workington.
The Comets are rated one of the best teams around, but in spite
of quick gating by their heat leaders we saw some sparkling
speedway by the young Monarchs as they came from the back
against such formidable opponents as Stonehewer and Nieminen.
The one man they couldn't peg back was Daniel Nermark whose
speed from the gate was matched by his all-round class. He
scored an 18-point five ride maximum though he was fortunate in
heat 1 when he seemed to have stopped prior to the red lights
coming on.
Andrew Tully earned the Hermiston
Monarch of the match award (and he also did the fastest time).
There were also great overtakes from
William Lawson, Matthew Wethers, Derek Sneddon and Ryan Fisher.
Aaron Summers also had his steadiest meeting so far.
The absence of Thomas Jonasson didn't do any harm on the night
with a paid 11 return from the 4 rider replacement rides, but it
will be good to have Thomas back in the fold next week.

TULLY A SUCCESS |
|
MIKE HUNTER REPORTS
|
|
Andrew Tully made his full time Premier League
debut with Edinburgh in 2007, and was rated one
of the main successes of our season.
He had been in the running for a place in 2006
but didn’t feel ready.
“I had thought about it, but after breaking my
leg the year before I was a bit down on
confidence. I probably wasn’t ready for it
anyway.
“At the end of 2006 I had a couple of outings in
Premier League and felt confident that I could
do a decent job. I was determined to ride
Premier League in 2007.
“I set myself quite high goals for last season
because I want my career in speedway to progress
a lot more. It wasn’t easy and I was a bit up
and down during the season but I was quite
pleased how it went.”
Tully didn’t stay long at reserve because after
the first average calculations at the 3 home,
3 away mark, he went up into the top five.
“Everybody says it was unfortunate that I got
pushed up into the team quite early, but I
wasn’t really bothered because I want to be
moving forward. I prefer that to spending a
whole year at reserve then starting the next
year in the team without experience of it.
“Now I’ve been in the team for quite a lot of
this season, and had harder rides. I’m quite
happy about that.”
It was a year of some turmoil for the Scotwaste
Monarchs who made dramatic changes to their
lineup in mid-July. Was that unsettling for a
youngster in his first PL season?
“It was a bit of an up and down season for the
team as well as myself. Everybody gets a bit
down when we aren’t doing so well, so that
didn’t help the atmosphere sometimes. Definitely
the best thing that happened to Edinburgh was
Derek being captain .”
One of the low points of the season for Tully
was a crash with George Stancl in the home match
against Newcastle, when the Czech lifted and
both went into the fence.
“All good fun. George had the worst three days
in a row ever, at King’s Lynn, Sheffield and
then Edinburgh. It wasn’t his fault, he was on
someone else’s bike and just hit a bit on the
track. That’s what I get for making half a
start! Maybe I should just stick to missing the
start.
“I know I’m not a good gater – I don’t enjoy not
gating, it would be nice to get out in front
once in a while. That is something I need to
work on.”
Tully, who said he enjoyed riding with Kaj
Laukkanen towards the end of the season had
several excellent outings - but he did remember
a race with Kevin Doolan when he came very close
to passing the Belle Vue man.
“I think if I had passed him that would have
been my highlight of the season. “I followed him
round and on the last lap decided to try to go
wide and cut back. I didn’t think I’d get as
much speed as I did. I drew level with him but
didn’t quite get through.”
Tully will also be looking for improved
equipment next season. “I’ve got new
frames already and I’m looking to get another
engine, but I haven’t got the money at the
moment – I’d like to find some sponsors.
It’s hard when you don’t know if you have a team
place, but teams can’t make signings till they
know the rules. “You could go and buy loads of
machinery and then finish up without a team!”
It will be Premier only for Andrew next year. “I
don’t think the rules will allow me to ride in
the Conference again, unless they invent some
new rules. I’d prefer to be looking towards
Elite eventually. I enjoyed being busy last year
– I did training schools during the winter and
riding three or four meetings per week was never
a problem for me, it’s good to keep busy.”
Towards the end
of the year Tully picked up a broken ankle at
Scunthorpe, curtailing his season, and he is
still recovering from that.
He told us “I tried going
back to work last Monday – I work on a
construction site and wear steel toe capped
boots which are quite heavy, and I have to carry
things. I was putting quite a lot of pressure on
my ankle and it got steadily worse.
“The doctor had said I shouldn’t go back to work
in case I damaged it, but I was bored!”

News Conference League Pairs
- Scunthorpe 3rd
(Article from
www.scunthorpespeedway.com)
For once the Lincs FM Scorpions had
to play second fiddle on their own track as their Lincolnshire
rivals, the Boston Barracudas, in the form of Simon Lambert and
ex-Scorpion Paul Cooper, claimed the Conference League Pairs
title at the Scunthorpe Raceway on Sunday afternoon. The
Scorpions finished third before Boston defeated Oxford in the
final to claim the title.
Scunthorpe and Boston were drawn together in Group One and they
recorded identical scores against the other three teams in the
group (7-2 successes against Cleveland and Rye House along with
a 6-3 over Weymouth). With the group winner going directly to
the final the result of the race between the two sides would be
key. Tai Woffinden, who was in exceptional form all afternoon
battled past Cooper for the lead but the Boston duo displayed
some excellent team-riding to keep Andrew Tully at the back and
secure a 5-4 heat victory under the 4-3-2-0 scoring system. A
5-4 the other way and it would have been the Scorpions who
progressed into the Final but alas they had to settle for the
Consolation Final and third place on the podium.
Final scores:
Final: Boston (Cooper 4, Lambert 3) Oxford 2 (Smethills 2,
Frampton retired)
Consolation Final: Scunthorpe 7 (Woffinden 4, Tully 3), Buxton 2
(Bethell 2, Roberts 0)
Qualifying scores:
Group 1
Boston 25 (Cooper 13+1, Lambert 12+1)
Scunthorpe 23 (Woffinden 15+1, Tully 8)
Weymouth 19 (Smart 14, Herne 5+1)
Rye House 10 (Mear 7, Ezergailis 3)
Cleveland 9 (Burrows 9, Blair 0)
Group 2
Oxford 27 (Frampton 14+2, Smethills 13+1)

Stoke 17 (Evans 11, Dore 6)
Sittingbourne 16 (Warwick 14, Felton 2)
Plymouth 12 (Westacott 8, Hopwood 4+1)
NB. The scoring in this meeting was 4-3-2-0 (for
1st_2nd-3rd-4th) as opposed to the usual 3-2-1-0. This is to
ensure that the best pair wins and not the team with the best
individual.

News - Tully
thinks track record will drop further

The Lincs FM Scunthorpe Scorpions’
Andrew Tully thinks the track record at the Scunthorpe Raceway
is set to tumble further after he smashed Tai Woffinden’s record
last Sunday. Andrew brought the record down from 58.24 seconds
to 57.65 but had no idea he had broken the near-ten month old
record. “After my first ride Norman (Beeney, the club’s
Co-chairman) said it was fast and would I be going for the track
record. I said I wasn’t interested in that but when I came in
(after heat 11) everyone was shouting at me. I didn’t know what
was going on but then they told me I had broken the track
record. I just laughed and said great”.
When asked if he though he could go faster Andrew added “Yes,
the track is getting a bit more grip on it so why not, but I
think Tai will be out to beat it now. I might have to bring it
down to fifty-six something to see who’s desperate to win it
although as long as we win our races, and the meetings, that is
what really matters. I’m sure he will break it sometime though”
Andrew will be back in action again this Sunday (start time 3pm)
when he takes his place in the Scorpions side to face the
Wimbledon Dons. Entrance to the meeting will be free of charge
as the club hope to attract hundreds of new fans to the thrills
and spills of Conference League speedway.

News-Tully smashes track record
as Scorpions scorch to victory
The Lincs FM Scorpions’ defeated
the Buxton Hitmen for the second time in two days to all but
guarantee their place in the Conference Trophy Final. The
standard of racing in the 64-28 victory was of the highest
standard whilst Andrew Tully smashed Tai Woffinden’s track
record in heat 11. The 19-year old Scot from Bathgate, who had
been the fastest rider at Buxton on Sunday, provided the four
fastest times of the day and lowered the record by over half a
second to the new mark of 57.65.
Tully dropped just one point
to an opponent when he badly missed the gate in heat 7. Despite
working his way from fourth to second he ran out of laps to
catch Buxton’s Carl Belfield. Byron Bekker returned to
high-scoring ways with nine plus one bonus point whilst Scott
Richardson defeated both Roberts and Belfield in his total of
five plus two bonus points.
The racing was amongst the
best of the season so far with the Scorpions frequently having
to earn their points from the back. Scott James was reeled in by
both home riders in heat 1 before similar happened to Lewis
Dallaway in heat 2. Jonathan Bethell led heat 4 but Tully passed
him at the end of the first lap and Haines rode maturely to work
his way past on the third circuit.
Tully battle from last to
second in heat 7 was accompanied by Scott Richardson holding off
the Buxton number one, Scott James, until he made a mistake on
the last lap to allow the Australian through. Heat 8 and Buxton
gave Jack Roberts a tactical ride. He scorched away and was
protected by Lewis Dallaway for a while. The home pairing picked
off Dallaway but by then Roberts was well on his way to the race
win.
Behind the jet-propelled
Tully in heat 11 was an epic three rider battle that saw James,
Richardson and Roberts battle throughout and be covered by the
proverbial blanket at the end of four laps. After Auty’s
exclusion in heat 12 Haines duelled with Belfield for two laps
before edging ahead and two races later it was Richardson who
battled side-by-side with the Buxton number four. Once again it
was the Scorpion who finally won through although in the last
race it was the Hitmen’s Roberts who got the decision over a
disappointed Compton.

Hey!
I'd like to thank everyone for their concern and best wishes
after I crashed into the fence at Glasgow on Sunday.
Fortunately I've not broken anything, just bruised every part of
my body from my neck to my knees!! My right knee is pretty
swollen, my neck muscles are really tight, my right elbow and
shoulder took quite a battering along with my hips and stomach
but, apart from that, I'm fighting fit really - lol.
Not sure what happened exactly - the bike lifted slightly when
doing a practice start and just picked up speed more and more as
I went down the straight. Don't know if the throttle stuck - to
be honest I was only paying attention to the fact that I was
heading towards the fence and couldn't slow the bike down!!
Needless to say my bike needs some serious repair work.
Probably not something people will see too often, a rider wiping
himself out before the racing has even started! Definitely
not something I want to repeat!
Lets see if I can get by the parade in one piece at Sheffield on
Thursday, lol.

ANDREW INJURED IN WARM-UP YESTERDAY
During the warm-up at Ashfield his bike lifted, picked up some
drive and took him straight into the fence. He withdrew from the
meeting. He is battered and bruised pretty much all over and his
knee is up like a balloon - no apparent broken bones though.
His bike is a right mess and very twisted. Highly unlikely it'll
be ready for Thursdays meeting.

Andrew scores 11 + 1 (7
rides) for the Stars.
Andrew won heat 2 after a nasty fall - Brundle fell in front of him and
Andrew, left with nowhere to go, ran into him. Both riders received
first aid. Race was re-run for the third time with just Andrew and
Evans. Evans bike stopped on final bend and he pushed it over the line
for 2nd place.
Andrew got a third place in heat 4 and then fell on first lap in
heat 6 while taking Brundle's place and was excluded.
He went on to win heat 8 with Mills and Barker fighting for second
place.
Brundle withdrew from meeting and Andrew took his rides so back out in
heat 9 and took third place behind Stead and Pickering.
Heat 12 was from the gate and a third place then in heat 14 he
'shepherded' Harding home for a paid win.

ANDREW TOP SCORER
The Lincs FM Scunthorpe Scorpions defeated the USA Dream Team 62-31 at
the Scunthorpe Raceway yesterday with Andrew Tully leading the scoring
with 14 points. There were solid contributions throughout the side with
Byron Bekker dropping just one point to an opponent whilst the reserve
pairing of Scott Richardson and Joe Haines dropped just two each.
Tai Woffinden, who scored a maximum in the Premier League on Saturday
night for Rye House, won two races but suffered a fall and an engine
failure whilst Josh Auty was undefeated by the USA riders except in his
first ride when he failed to get away from the tapes. The Lincs FM
Scorpions’ captain Richie Dennis was undefeated by the opposition in his
first two races but fell in his third.
The Scorpions started the meetings with two 5-1 heat wins before
mechanical trouble allowed the visitors to take 4-2 heat advantages from
heats 3 and 4. Five consecutive 5-1s put the result beyond doubt but the
Americans came back strong with a 7-2 heat victory in heat 10 and a 4-2
in heat 13. The penultimate race saw Tully team ride Richardson to a 5-1
over the ever-pressing Tim Gomez before the same pair repeated the score
in heat 15 after Brian Yarrow suffered an engine failure.
Full scorers:
‘Lincs FM’ Scunthorpe Scorpions – Andrew Tully 14 (5 rides), Joe Haines
13 (5), Byron Bekker 10+1 (4), Scott Richardson 9+4 (5), Josh Auty 6+3
(4), Tai Woffinden 6 (4), Richie Dennis 4+2 (3).
‘Barrett Steel’ USA Dream Team – Bryan Yarrow 11 (5 rides, including 6
points from a tactical ride) Tommy Hedden 8 (5, including 6 points from
a tactical substitute ride), Neil Facchini 6 (4), Tim Gomez 3 (4), JT
Mabry 2 (4), Kenny Ingalls 1 (4), Dale Facchini 0 (4).

A
FEW
WORDS
First weekend in Premier was a bit up and down. Had a nightmare start at
home - from burning out my clutch in my first ride to crashing and
bending my bike in my last!
Glasgow was a bit more encouraging. Felt on the pace and was pleased
with my
2nd place in heat 4. Just need to improve on my gating and first corner
to hopefully
get a few more points on the board.
